Labor Day on Central Coast

If you’re planning a long Labor Day weekend celebration on the Central Coast, you’ve come to the right place! As your Central Coast real estate agent, allow me to fill you in on what events and activities are happening in the area. Attend the ones that sound most fun to you and enjoy the unofficial end to the summer season!

Many locals choose to hang out at Lake Nacimiento or Lake San Antonio over the holiday weekend, so expect crowds. But what better way to celebrate summer than with a boat ride, water sports, fishing, swimming, floating, barbecuing, camping and socializing with family and friends at the lake? Our Central Coast beaches are the next best thing for some salt water fun!

Here are some more great ideas for Labor Day weekend:

  • Start your weekend off with the Paso Robles Classic Car Weekend on Sept. 1-2 at Downtown City Park! Check out the pre-1979 classic cars cruising Friday night and showing in the park on Saturday. More than 300 cars are expected for this event, so if classic cars are your thing, this is the place to be!
  • Sept. 2, head to Vince DiMaggio Park in Marina, CA for a Labor Day Parade & Festival! The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 12:30 p.m. along Reservation Road. It’ll feature military color guard, marching bands, horses, classic cars, dancers and more. After the parade, enjoy live music, food and fun at the festival until 4 p.m.
  • Labor Day Art in the Park takes place in Morro Bay Sept 2-4. Head to City Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day to browse the work of artists and artisans in a variety of mediums, and purchase art to showcase in your Central Coast home if you feel so inclined!
  • Catch some live music in a park this weekend! You’ve got plenty of options. Head to Concerts in the Plaza in SLO on Friday, the Sizzlin’ Sunday Summer Concerts in Grover Beach or the Village Summer Concert Series in Arroyo Grande on Sunday, and Beer at the Pier Concert in Los Osos/Baywood Park on Monday. Numerous wineries are also hosting live weekend throughout the weekend.
  • Monterey County Fair is running from Aug. 30 to Sept. 4! Head to the Monterey County Fair & Event Center for some old-fashioned, family-friendly fun. There will be carnival rides, livestock exhibits, live music and entertainment, delicious food and everything else you expect to find at a county fair!

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend on the Central Coast, no matter what you decide to do. When ready to accomplish your Central Coast real estate market goals this coming fall, contact me, your Central Coast real estate agent! I am here and ready to guide you through the buying or selling process, or both! There is no better time to accomplish your real estate goals than now.

SLO/Paso Robles among Healthiest Places in U.S.

SLO County

Get healthier in SLO County!

Looking for an excuse to relocate to the Central Coast? While there are plenty, you can add this one to the list. The San Luis Obispo / Paso Robles / Arroyo Grande region was named one of the top 10 healthiest U.S. regions to live in, according to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index for 2017. So when ready to purchase a home in SLO County, contact me, your Central Coast real estate agent!

SLO County received a Well-Being Index Score of 65.2. This region has typically ranked among the highest for well-being since 2008! Gallup determines these scores based on two years of Metropolitan Statistical Area well-being records and more than 354,000 interviews with U.S. adults across all 50 states. Five categories are determined:

  • Purpose: Liking what you do each day and motivation to achieve goals
  • Social: Having supportive relationships and love in your life
  • Financial: Managing your finances while having low stress and high security
  • Community: Liking where you live, feeling safe, having pride for your community
  • Physical: Having good health and energy to get things done each day

When breaking down the Gallup poll even further, we found that Salinas made the top five list for having purpose. San Luis Obispo was second on list of top places for community, and SLO also made the top five for physical. Read more details from the Gallup Well-Being Index.

As a Central Coast real estate agent, I believe there are many factors that play into the high levels of well-being in this area! Here are a few of my thoughts:

Community Events: All throughout the Central Coast region, there are events daily, weekly or monthly to keep residents busy, and which bring people together to give them the feeling of living in a small town. I update this blog regularly with local events and activities for you to take note of!

Outdoor Activities: It is easy to remain healthy and happy with beautiful weather and a million ways to enjoy that weather outdoors! Whether you live on Lake Nacimiento, with peaceful lake living and activities at your fingertips, you live among the vineyards in the valley, or your live along the coast, there is a plethora of trails, water sports, beaches, campsites, etc. to keep you busy.

Stress Relief: Life will also give you reasons to stress, but SLO County provides so many stress relievers too! You can head to a winery’s tasting room any day of the week for a sample or glass of wine, and many wineries host events on a regular basis. Or, spending a day unwinding at Lake Nacimiento! Nothing eases stress better than a day at the lake.

Real Estate: There are housing opportunities for everyone on the Central Coast. You determine your budget, and as a SLO County real estate agent, I can help you find the perfect home to suit your needs. Whether you want a permanent home, vacation home, retirement home or investment property, I can help make your real estate dreams a reality.

Where to Hike to Best Views in SLO County

SLO County Hikes

SLO County Hikes with Great Views

In my last blog post, I shared what you can do in Monterey County on a rainy day. Now let’s talk about when it’s a beautiful, sunny day in the Central Coast region of California! Days with blue skies and gentle breezes are perfect days for hiking in SLO County.

Lucky for you, there are some epic local hikes to choose from, each which will give you a 360-degree view of the gorgeous region around you. As your SLO County real estate agent, I’d like to recommend a few of these to you today.

  • Terrace Hill – This is a good one to start with if you’re not a novice hiker. This hike begins in San Luis Obispo, is only .9 miles in length, and will take you to 285 feet in elevation. You can look out at SLO, Cerro San Luis and Bishop Peak from the top, and it is especially beautiful during sunset hours.
  • Hi Mountain Condor Lookout – You can drive to this lookout point in Los Padres National Forest, but you’ll feel more rewarded if you hike it! It’s a 10.4 mile hike round-trip, which you can begin from High Mountain Road in Santa Margarita or Arroyo Grande, near Lopez Lake. You’ll end at 3,198 feet elevation, where you can take in vast views above Los Padres National Forest and all the way to the coast.
  • Cerro Alto – This lookout point is also located in Los Padres National Forest, but it begins from Atascadero and is about half the distance. The trail begins at the Cerro Alto Campground and is 5.35 miles round-trip. It’s shorter, but also steeper. You’ll end at 2,624 feet in elevation and can look out at the rolling green hills of SLO County and the Nine Sisters.
  • Shell Beach Bluff Trail – This 2.8 mile loop will give you a gorgeous overlook of the Pacific Ocean! Begin by walking along the Shell Beach bluff until you reach Avila Ridge, a steep hike that will bring you to the top. The end elevation is 700 feet, which will give you a view of Pismo Beach and Avila Beach. There’s even an iconic swing at the top!

For more hiking options with 360-degree views, check out this CAL SLO article. If you’ve got a favorite local hike with great views, leave a comment and share which one it is!

As a SLO County resident, it’s such a treat to get to enjoy the beauty of the Central Coast year-round. Get Active in SLO County with These Options

SLO County

SLO County Activities

If you are looking to increase your activity level on the Central Coast, good news. That’s incredibly easy to do! Once we are cleared of the remaining damage from our recent storms, get out and enjoy Mother Nature. There are tons of fantastic activities to choose from in the area, from water sports to hiking and everything in between. To help you choose your healthy activity for 2017, as your SLO County real estate agent, allow me to share some ideas with you.

Visit San Luis Obispo County came up with a great list of 10 activities to try this year:

  • Kayak to Point San Luis Lighthouse in Avila Beach, where you can rent kayaks and traverse over to the lighthouse. It is still in operation, is rich with history and supplies fantastic views from the Coast!
  • Do yoga on a paddleboard in Morro Bay. If you’ve surpassed your yoga goals on a mat, move onto a paddleboard in the water! This gives you extra work on balance and strength.
  • Achieve the tri-tip challenge! This is a great hiking challenge that will officially make you a local. Hike to The Cal Poly P, Cerro San Luis and Bishop Peak, all in one day.
  • Take advantage of the local bike paths. One great option is to bike from Paso Robles to Cambria, or vice versa. This will traverse you through Adelaida wine country, which is beautiful and full of wine options!
  • Bike, jog or walk the Bob Jones Trail. This is also a great SLO County biking or running option. It is roughly two miles in length and leads you from San Luis Obispo right to Avila Beach!
  • Take your dog out with you. Dogs have a wonderful way of motivating their owners to be more active! One option is to take a walk along Cayucos State Beach with your pup, as it is dog-friendly and beautiful.
  • Take your mountain bike up the Hazard Peak Trail in Montana de Oro near Los Osos! It’s a 4.1-mile ride. From a Eucalyptus Grove, to tons of wildflowers, you’ll appreciate every inch of the trail.
  • Tee up at a local golf course. Test your coordination and activate your mind and body with a game of golf. Try out Hunter Ranch, Chalk Mountain, Avila Beach Golf Resort, Morro Bay Golf Course and Dairy Creek. You’ve got lots of options!
  • Surf at Pismo Beach. You can rent all the equipment there, including the surfboard, wetsuit, paddle, etc. If you’ve never done it before, book a lesson!
  • Stroll along the Moonstone Beach Boardwalk. This is an easy, relaxing way to add activity to your SLO County life. Enjoy 1.4 miles of coastline views, Monterey pines and moonstone.

What activities would you add to this list for newcomers to the Central Coast region? Share by leaving a comment! I would suggest Lake Nacimiento and all of the activities that await you there, once all the damage from recent storms is cleared up.

When ready to relocate to the Central Coast, or when ready to get active in the SLO County real estate market, contact me! I am your SLO County real estate agent, here and ready to help you out!
